The following will provide you with a brief description of a day charter fishing on the JADE II plus some recommendations to make your trip one you will have fond memories of.
The day or evening before your trip you may want to check and make sure you have the following items for the morning: A camera, film, suntan lotion, a jacket (for chilly morning or as a cover up from the sun), sunglasses, and a hat. Hopefully, it will be a bright, sunny day and those items will make for a more comfortable trip. You may want to consider and over-the-counter motion sickness remedy if you are prone to queasiness. We recommend one just before bed and one just as soon as you get up in the morning. We also recommend that you keep the drinking in check the night before, it is amazing how much that helps to insure a good day.
"White Sole" deck shoes or sneakers only please! Something that will not leave black scuff marks on the deck. NO BOOTS, WORK SHOES, BLACK SOLE OR HARD SOLE SHOES!
Your trip begins at approximately the time on the schedule for your type of trip. If possible, you should check with the Captain the night before. It is a good time to discuss weather and departure time. All bait and tackle is provided by the boat as well as ice to keep your catch in top shape during the day. You should bring a good solid cooler for your own food and drink. It is OK to feed the Captain and Mate.
Inshore fishing (fishing for Bluefish, King Mackerel, Tautog, Sea Bass, and Stripers) an 8 hour or less day and is usually within 25 miles of the inlet.
Offshore fishing is a 12 hour day with overnight trips available, (fishing for Tuna, Marlin, Dolphin, Sharks, and Swordfish) 40 to 75 miles from the inlet.
We troll, chunk or chum using rigged baitfish and some artificial lures. Six to ten rods are normally in use. However, when a large fish gets hooked up, the other lines are pulled in so that the fish doesn’t get wrapped up in them. We provide the tackle and bait but you may, of course, bring your own tackle.
In January we start fishing for Stripers, Tautog (blackfish) and Seabass. Mid May we begin fishing for Slammer Bluefish, Mako, Thresher sharks and Yellowfin Tuna. Bluefin Tuna show up in June. In July King Mackerel and Slammer Bluefish make good inshore fishing. Also in July the Tuna are here in good numbers with Wahoo, Dolphin and Marlin showing up as well. As we get into August Billfish, Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, and Dolphin are still here in good numbers with, Longfin Tuna showing up. Early September holds some good fishing for an assortment of fish but, September thru November is a don’t miss Tuna Chunking time. If you like to fish for Tuna, then this is a don’t miss time. November thru May bring Toug, Seabass and Striper fishing in Indian River.
We provide all bait and tackle. All you need to bring is your food and beverages. Our tackle is matched to the species sought for maximum sport fishing enjoyment. Don’t forget your camera or video recorder to capture the various memories.
There is a competent fish cleaning service, which you may want to use, located at both our marinas. At The FISHING CENTER tables are provided for you to clean your own fish if you choose. If you use the fish cleaner, it certainly saves time and usually makes for better fillets and steaks as an end result. You must provide your own coolers for storage of your fish.
As you will find throughout the day, our Mate will be a most helpful and knowledgeable member of your team. Tipping is CUSTOMARY and EXPECTED. It should be based upon your discretion. A MINIMUM tip of $100.00 for our 8-hour trips and $250.00 for our 12-hour trips will be greatly appreciated and is well deserved for long hours of hard work. If you feel that our Mate is not worth a tip, please tell us why, and what he did or did not do. We would greatly appreciate your comments. Thanks!
Just in case the weather is bad the day of your charter (The Captain will make the final determination about this) you may receive a refund of your deposit or re-schedule your trip for another day.
Reservations are required. A $200.00 deposit for 8 hour trips, $500.00 for 12 hour trips and $1000.00 for our 24 & 30 hour trips is necessary to confirm a reservation and must be received 10 days after the reservation is made. If no deposit is received the day becomes available to the general public. There are no deposit refunds other than for inclement weather or boat breakdown. Credit cards are accepted by The Fishing Center (for deposits or the balance) with 5% added.
Please ensure, when you book us and send the deposit in, that you have collected from your friends in advance so the responsibility is theirs and not yours and the trip can proceed as planned because the monies have been collected.

We sincerely hope this information will be helpful to you and that we have the chance of sharing all the attractions of our "neck of the ocean" with you.
